Earning a Slot in the UK Lobby: Five Metrics That Matter to TaDa
21 / 10 / 2026

With rising RGD costs, tighter player controls and less reliance on bonus-led acquisition, every slot has to prove its value. Sean Liu, Director of Product Management, TaDa Gaming, discusses how the ambitious content provider is working with its UK clients to ensure that its “partner for growth” approach is delivering results in a volatile market with each release earning a slot in the lobby.

The changing UK market and how to approach it

The UK lobby has always been highly competitive. What has changed in the last year are the economics behind the competition.

With RGD now at 40%, tighter player controls and a regulatory environment placing greater emphasis on transparency and customer-led financial management, operators are analysing individual game performance much more closely, alongside player acquisition costs. All content needs to demonstrate that it can do more than attract

attentionhttps://tadagaming.com/news/content/448. It must also generate consistent repeat play and continue contributing well after the launch period.

Working closely with our clients, we have established five key metrics to prove whether a game deserves its place in the lobby and we build our games to ensure that each release can deliver on all five.

Are players actually playing it?

DAUs are an effective starting point, but sessions per player, frequency of play and average session length must all be taken together to get a full picture to differentiate a launch spike from genuine engagement.

TaDa's Leprechaun’s Gold Streak illustrates this distinction as DAUs rose 55% in the first month and subsequently continued to grow at around 30% month on month.

For operators, those are the meaningful numbers. Not only did players try out the new game but it continued to generate solid activity post launch.

Do players come back?

More than ever, retention is a critical metric for UK operators. Increasing player acquisition costs and restricted marketing initiatives mean operators must maximise their existing customer base.

Comparing Day 1, Day 7 and Day 30 retention numbers can help distinguish a genuine connection from a launch-driven spike. Repeat-player numbers and the proportion of returning new to existing players show how successfully the game landed with target audiences and the type of business it generated, giving operators clear indications of a game’s value in the lobby.

For us, retention is also a strong measure of quality. Our UK market strategy has focused on content-led retention through layered gameplay rather than a bonus-led approach, keeping us fully compliant with the UKGC directives.

Gold Mine Express, Fortune Hook Antarctic and Leprechaun's Gold Streak have been stand-out releases, highlighted for their ability to generate retention through game mechanics, themes and balanced gameplay.

Does it deliver commercial value?

For us, that means looking at metrics including new-player contribution and activity from existing players. Where operators are willing to share it, GGR contribution can provide an even clearer picture.

Whilst a game needs to attract new customers, in the UK, where bonus-led acquisition is becoming less straightforward, giving existing players another reason to return to the lobby becomes increasingly important.

We have focused on delivering recognisable themes with distinctive mechanics, so our Hit the Cash™ titles offer a combination of jackpots, multipliers and Lock & Respin mechanics. This layered gameplay has resonated with UK players across slots including Coin of Lightning and Fortune Coins Unlimited Fortune™ delivering consistent numbers.

With Fortune Coins Unlimited Fortune™, operators saw DAUs up 160% over an initial three-month period, suggesting that the blend of familiarity and layered features is a successful approach to UK players.

Can it work beyond one market, operator or player segment?

We evaluate this transferability as a key metric for success as well as a source of vital market data. A concept or feature that, when localised effectively, can perform across platform, demographics and markets provides valuable evidence that the underlying proposition has legs.

For the UK, we are delivering targeted content that combines recognisable themes, features and mechanics designed to support sustained retention and in strict compliance with UKGC regulations.

Content that successfully offers quality play, visible fairness and appeals to a sophisticated player base can quickly go viral. This means there can already be a waiting audience when launching market specific iterations in new countries, as we discovered with our TriLuck™ and Lucky series across Latin American markets and most recently with Gold Mine Express in European ones.

Is the game still growing after launch?

For us, this is the most important test, as month-on-month growth in DAUs, new-player acquisition, repeat-player activity and sustained performance after the initial launch period will tell whether a game has genuine staying power.

If a title is still generating growth months after release, its value to an operator extends beyond the original launch campaign. It becomes part of the content mix rather than simply another new release competing for attention.

For a UK market facing greater cost pressure with brand-loyal players, that’s a critical metric to decide if a game deserves its place and one that TaDa is determined to always deliver on.
